Introducing Event Crew Training and Event Crew Essentials

Event Crew Training started life when a group of like-minded crewing professionals got together online during the first Covid-19 lockdown in the UK. Like other skilled professionals from the event production and concert touring industries, the founders of Event Crew Training went from working packed schedules to no work at all. They met online and, unable to resist their built in need to get things done, they looked for ways of supporting the industry through training and education.

Founded by experienced event crew professionals

The people who formed Event Crew Training run their own successful businesses – namely: Base Crew, DNG Production & Event Crew, Outsource Staffing Solutions (OSS), The Music Consortium and Rule Out Loud Management. They collectively agreed not to commercialise Event Crew Training – establishing a not-for-profit limited company – and committed to making their training as accessible as possible by minimising course fees.

Supporting crewing companies to be safer and more effective

Ultimately, Event Crew Training exists to raise safety standards and efficiency through training and education. As events and touring emerge from Covid-19 restrictions, there is a need to recruit new and inexperienced crew to replace those not returning to the industry. As a group, the founders felt that the existing training was not detailed or specific enough, so they dedicated time and resources to creating the Event Crew Training online portal.

Nailing the fundamentals with Event Crew Essentials

Setting a new benchmark for entry level crew and technicians starts with the fundamentals, which are covered in the Event Crew Essentials course. Accessible on laptop, tablet and mobile, the course covers Industry Essentials, Health & Safety, Manual Handling, and Manual Handling for Events. The course takes around 90 minutes to complete and costs only £20 per crew member.

Diving deeper into the Event Crew Essentials online course

Arriving for your first ever shift or returning following a period of absence can be daunting. Entering the fast-paced event production environment unprepared could put crew members and their colleagues at unnecessary risk. Event Crew Essentials covers the fundamentals in four sections.

Industry Essentials explains the expectations of crew and overviews the job. Health & Safety gives an overview of employer and employee responsibilities, plus PPE standards and accident reporting systems. Manual Handling provides an understanding of the risks involved in lifting, as well as methods to mitigate damage to people and equipment. Manual Handling for Events offers a detailed look at how to safely unload a truck, move its contents around an arena and load it up again.

Giving back to the industry with accessible crew training

Accessibility is an essential part of Event Crew Training’s DNA. All of the founders are genuinely passionate about raising standards and offering training that reflects the professional nature of the industry today. By setting the course fee for Event Crew Essentials at on £20 per crew member, it is hoped that crewing companies will adopt the training as an industry standard. With industry wide uptake comes a guaranteed standard for all event crew.

Welcoming support from the live events industry

Whether it’s spreading the word among colleagues, peers and on social media, choosing Event Crew Training for your company or donating to help make the training as accessible as possible, support is always welcome. With plans to offer additional courses in the coming months, all donations go directly into developing training and resources.
